Can I duplicate my wordpress blog/site for commercial use?

    Hi there,

    e.g. I’m starting a new job as a webdesigner.

    There is a company with about 35 independent offices that asks me to develop a website/blog for all of them.
    – they will have the same layout
    – they will have the same content
    – In fact I may just copy-paste the whole site & content and just change the logo’s.

    => Of course they all will have to buy a unique domain-name and every single office will buy the particular theme of wordpress which I decide I will be using,…

    A) Am I, as a webdesigner, allowed to use wordpress in this way? Or is it forbidden to use wordpress to earn some money?

    B) Does this have negative consequenses for the SEO-ranking of the sites, etc…? Because I always will copy 85% of the sites over and over again. Or will this be alright if i change the data in the SEO-fields (such as meta-headers,…) for each site?

    If you are talking about a WordPress.ORG install on their own server then the answer is you can copy and paste all you want.

    However, do beware of what Google’s position is on those who deliberately create duplicate content sites with gaming search engine results in mind.

    To take the thought from a different perspective – look at large commercial sites – they don’t have a site for each place in most cases, they have one site and then regionalised pages or regionalised sub-sites. This would minimalise content duplication, something to be avoided.

    A lot of Real Estate companies have cookie cutter sites for their agents – exact same layout but the agent info is different and the listings are different –
