Can I edit and save changes to my website without publishing it?

  I am wanting to create a web site for our company and want to make a certian page of the site attainable until I finish creating to full site. Can I make only one part active or published , while I create the site in the background and save the changes without publishing them until I am finished?

  When finished creating the full site I will want to attach it to our current domain that customers are currently using, is all that possible?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
