CAN I GET HELP GETTING INTO MY FUCKING ACCOUNT PLEASE?!
-
So, I tried to log into my account.
Turns out, I can’t remember which email address I used. Nbd, I’ll just use the ‘forgot my email’ tool that every fucking website has had since the advent of the fucking internet… except wait, it doesn’t exist on this *Website that makes fucking websites*.Ok, no, stay calm, I’ll just press this support link. See, there’s the ‘recover my account’ feature. A little buried, but it’s fine.
…What do you mean I have to have one of three RIDICULOUSLY SPECIFIC PIECES OF INFORMATION in order to even SEND the fucking account recovery request?!HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO HAVE THAT INFORMATION, IF I CAN’T REMEMBER WHICH EMAIL ADDRESS I USED?! WHICH IS THE ENTIRE REASON I’M HERE TO BEGIN WITH?!
‘Oh, I’m sure you understand, we have to have *SOME* form of identification for account recovery.’ It says, mocking me.
I do have information I can provide. Lots of it. I have an entire backup of the fucking website I’m trying to gain access to. But, I can’t even tell you that without having the SPECIFIC INFORMATION that makes your computers happy. So, ok, it will be alright. I’ll just go find the more general, ‘Contact Us’ page. That every website has had since the… You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me. YOU’VE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME.
Someone should be fired for this. Your entire PR team should be laid off without pension, and blacklisted in the industry. I WILL GO FULL FUCKING KAREN ON THIS SHIT. I WILL SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER, AND IT WILL BE AN UNCOMFORTABLE CONVERSATION THAT GOES NOWHERE AND ACCOMPLISHES NOTHING!
I’m literally so pissed off that I’ve circled back around to joking at this point. There’s no reason for this shit. I just want to get into MY blog. No one is going to try to hijack a decade-old blog that got *almost* a hundred views on it’s best day, at least half of which were bots.
If someone from WordPress would like to do their job, my email address is (email visible only to moderators and staff).

Hi, being abusive toward staff won’t help; social engineering can be like that. Please mind the community standards here if you’d like help:
https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/best-practices-community-standards/If you’ll send a link to the site, though, we’ll check to see what options are available.

I shouldn’t have had to go through any of this to begin with. I literally just need to know what email is associated with the account. Chances are, I won’t even need a password reset or anything like that. This is a simple problem, that should have had a simple solution.
Thank you for checking. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Whilst you’re waiting for a member of staff to reply have you tried logging on with your username bottomlessthought and correct password?
https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/ -
I don’t know what my username for that account is. That is the problem.
I guess it might just be bottomlessthought. But, how would you know? -
Ok, yeah, that was the username. Still not sure how you knew that. But, anyway, yeah, now I can’t remember my password. What are the formatting rules? Capital, number, special character?

Hi, @bronsoncarder
I went to read your blog.
I paid attention to the author of the posts.
I checked that it isbottomlessthoughtBingo!
http://es.gravatar.com/bottomlessthoughtIt was very easy, for me. 😉

Still not sure how you knew that

A cool trick I like if you don’t know which email you used is to input your known username into the lost password form. It’s going to send a reset message to the email on file for that account, so it essentially serves as the “forgot my email” feature you were hoping for. If you then check all email accounts you have, you’ll be able to identify which it is and pick a new password. :)
-
Yeah, I’m still not seeing it. Every post on my blog is listed as, “by Bronson Carder.” I’m not seeing it listing the username anywhere. Maybe you found some comments? There are only a small handful on there.
Not sure why you felt the need to link me to this same conversation. -
1. I didn’t know my username, so I couldn’t have used it to figure out the email.
2. The main email address that I used to use is a yahoo one that I got locked out of a LONG time ago. If the address used for this site is that one, and I can’t figure out my password on here, then I literally have to start my blog over entirely.
I sincerely appreciate you guys being civil, after I did not offer the same. But… I was hoping for more help from the people whose job it is to actually help me.

Hi there, now that you know the correct username, and if you no longer have access to the email account associated with it, please try the account recovery method that @themagicrobot suggested earlier https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/ Fill in as much information as you can on that form including the old email address you think was associated with that account.

Of course. You says

Thanks folks. This is a great community.
@bronsoncarder for privacy reasons we can’t give out the email on file. But, here’s one tip for figuring out the email: if you have friends you were emailing then that you still stay in touch with now, ask them what address you were sending from around that time.In some cases, folks will find they used an email they’ve closed since then. But sometimes the email provider will let their old users re-open that account, or at least forward the password reset link.
-
So it turns out all you need to do to get an answer is be rude? Polite requests get ignored. I’m still waiting for my answer
-
Hi @niklausandcamille there is a limit to how much we are able to help here in the support forums, as verifying account ownership requires us to ask you to provide info that is best not shared in this public venue. That is why we’re not always able to give a straightforward answer.
With this in mind, please fill out this form here to the best of your ability: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
This will send all the info you have to our account recovery team, and from there they will contact you directly to assist you in regaining access to the account that owns the site you are trying to access.
-
…That’s the same account recovery thing I tried to use, which I couldn’t submit, because it requires that you have one of three ridiculously specific pieces of information.
Literally all you would have to do to streamline this process, and stop pissing off customers like me and Niklaus, is remove those requirements.I still don’t have access to my account, btw.

“But sometimes the email provider will let their old users re-open that account, or at least forward the password reset link.”
Yahoo doesn’t even have a customer support page anymore. They got bought out by another company, and now their email platform is pretty much defunct.

Do you people just not know how your own site functions?Once again, I cannot submit that form because it requires that you have one of three ridiculously specific pieces of information that I do not have. I still don’t know what email is associate with the account, and if it’s the email I think it is, I don’t even have access to that email anymore.
