Can I get my URL back if it's been deleted?

  • Unknown's avatar

I deleted my entire blog but I only meant to delete all the content. I still need the web address. Now it won’t let me create it again (which I can understand stopping other people taking up that address but if it used to be mine surely I could have it back?)
    My blog was theyorkshireschoolofsewing.wordpress.com
(Not to be confused with my other site yorkshireschoolofsewing.wordpress.com). I need the word “the” in the title for consistency with my email address etc.

Ignore the field “Blog URL” where it wouldn’t let me put the address of the deleted blog

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The short answer is “you can’t”.

Deleted blog URLs are not recycled http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

However, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Thanks timethief. I’ve been getting that impression from hunting forum posts. I’m just gutted that I didn’t understand the warning messages fully. The emphasis seemed to be on that I’d never be able to get my content back. My own fault really.
I don’t want to pay for a unique domain and I do still have the url without “the” in it.
I just can’t get my head around how you can restore your own url. If there is a sensible answer for this please do let me know. The recycled blog names post only provides a logical sensible answer for trying to take other people’s blog names which I totally agree with.
    Thanks again

There are no exceptions made regardless of who registered and who deleted the URL. As for getting your content back, if it was indexed by Google then you will be able to locate cached copies and copy and paste the content into new posts.
