Can I get rid of the ‘Howdy Folks’ greeting?

  “Howdy Folks” might be Mom and apple pie to American WordPress users, but it can grate on the rest of us. In fact it so annoyed a friend of mine I recommended WordPress to, that his immediate response was “forget them”.

  Can I change the greeting to something more culturally appropriate for my part of the world?

  Well, there is no way to get rid of it and if your friend is that sensitive or hair-triggered (there’s another one that would probably irritate the both of you), then perhaps he’s better off over at Google.
