Can I get rid of the word 'blog' in my web address?

Apologies if I’m asking stupid questions, but I’ve spent a fair while searching without finding what I want to know.

Is there a way for me to change my web address from:

    ***blog.wordpress.com to ***.wordpress.com

My research has shown me how I can change the web address in my dashboard, but it won’t let me chose my preferred address because it says that site is reserved. Is that because there is a WP site called “***.me”, or is it because I’ve already used “***blog” ? If it is reserved on the part of someone else, then I accept defeat, but if it’s reserved because I am using it, then surely I should be able to change it without closing and opening a new account?

I’m not hugely computer literate, but it seems to me that both the “***.me” address, and the “***blog.wordpress.com” address are different from the address I want.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions :)

    Hello thisunrest!

Actually, “mygypsyroad.me” is a custom domain for “mygypsyroad.wordpress.com”, you can see that if you go at “mygypsyroad.wordpress.com”, it will change the address to the custom domain.

So, the address you want was taken already, that’s why you were only able to register “***blog.wordpress.com”. Then, I suggest you try another domain, because the one you choose will be very similar to the other one, it can confuse your readers.

Ah, yes it did put me straight through to the custom domain, but I didn’t understand that that was what it was doing (see aforementioned limited computer literacy!).

Okay, I’ve changed my web address now. Thanks very much for your help :)
