Can I get the link widget to show only on the home page?
-
Hello – I am using the Coraline theme and would like to know if there is a way to display the Link widget on the home page only. Currently it is showing on all three of my pages, but I only want it to show on the front page. Is it possible to remove it from two of the pages or is it an all or nothing thing where it has to be on every page if used at all? If that is the case, is there another widget that I could use instead, such as Text? All I am using it for is to link to recent publications and it feels redundant to show it on the Sample Writing page and doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing to show it on the Photography page. Thanks a million for any advice!

The answer to having widgets display on some pages and not on others is “no”.
Some themes do have special Links page templates. Yours does not.
If you wish you can create a Links page manually and then update it every time you enter or remove a link as it will not update automatically. -
In some themes, with the Custom Design Upgrade, a widget can be excluded from certain pages with CSS, but that is not the case with all themes. It depends on whether the markup and the CSS are rich enough in CSS selectors to allow that.

Thank you very much to both of you for your responses. Is it possible to do anything else to have a sidebar on only the home page, perhaps some other method besides a widget? When I was choosing the one column layout it seemed like every page had to be the same, but perhaps there is a way to make the home page have two columns(so I could put the information currently in the widget in one of the columns) and the other pages remain one column? Or is it just wishful thinking?

This is the live demo site for the theme > http://coralinedemo.wordpress.com/
We cannot edit either themes or templates on free hosted WordPress.com blogs to change the way they function. Every blog wearing the same theme is using the same template. Only Staff can access the required underlying template files and edit them and every edit they make affects all blogs wearing the same theme. We can purchase a custom design upgrade and change appearance of themes only by CSS editing. thescredpath who posted above is the Volunteer who currently is the one Volunteer who helps with CSS editing.

Thanks, Timethief. I am so new to this I am not sure what CSS editing is (will go look it up now!). I didn’t mean to ask anyone to change the whole theme and I think I want to avoid paying for the custom upgrade at this time. I was just wondering if I am correct in my thinking that the page layout (one-column vs. two-column, etc.) has to be the same for each page. If there is a way to have different layouts, I thought that might solve my problem of wanting something showing in a side bar or box or column only on the home page.

In looking at the coraline demo page you sent it seems like a sticky post could be a good option for just showing something on the home page.
