Can I hard-code an Ad on my blog?
-
Hi, I understand that we can’t run ads here at WordPress.com except for using WordAd. But can I hard-code an Ad on my blog? For example, I just post a picture and at the bottom right part of the picture it is stated “sponsored by xxx”. Appreciate advice.

No blogger initiated advertising for driving traffic to third party sites is allowed here on wordpress.COM hosted blogs. PPC is not allowed. Affiliate marketing banners and any and all advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com are not allowed.
The only advertising program at WordPress.com is called WordAds and it’s for blogs on their own domains.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have checked out the differences. So that means if i opt for wordpress.org I don’t get to buy the themes in wordpress.com?
-
Yes that is what it means. Premium themes here https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/staff-picks/type/premium/ are licensed only for use on WordPress.COM hosted blogs and cannot be transferred to wordpress.ORG software.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.
Resetting your WordPress.ORG password http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page -

P.S. You contact the Premium theme designer directly to purchase a theme version for wordpress.ORG software from them.

Hi timethief,
Are you sure the answers you provided are right? Below are the evidences found on your website that say we’re allowed to include sponsored posts on our blog. Check these out:
Most affiliate links and sponsored posts from reputable merchants are allowed on WordPress.com, as long as your blog’s primary purpose is to create original content, and not merely to send traffic to these sites.
(https://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/)Advertising isn’t permitted unless you use WordAds or have a WordPress.com VIP or Enterprise site. (https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-guidelines/)
Sponsored Posts
When a company or individual encourages you to publish content for the purpose of promoting a specific product, service, or idea, we consider this a sponsored post. Whether you are paid to publish this material or not, we allow sponsored posts on WordPress.com as long as they consist of original content created by you. (https://en.support.wordpress.com/sponsored-posts/)
When blogging about books you’re reading, music you love, clothes that strike your fancy, gadgets you’re drooling over, or whatever is of interest to you and your readers, feel free to post relevant affiliate links using either text or images. (https://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/)

Yes I’m sure but I tagged this thread so you can hear it all again from Staff.

Hi @testing123try , actually we had updated our ad policy. As long as your site doesn’t primarily exist to send visitors elsewhere, you should be fine.
-
I’m sorry but I was away for awhile. Here’s an update. I stand corrected as you have quoted an updated support doc on affiliate ads.
“Most affiliate links and sponsored posts from reputable merchants are allowed on WordPress.com, as long as your blog’s primary purpose is to create original content, and not merely to send traffic to these sites.”
