Can I have a "blog" page with the Hatch theme?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m looking to develop my current blog, which is about sketching, into a full-blown website with the Hatch theme showcasing all of my illustration and graphic work. However, I still want to keep a page that will be a continual ongoing blog, with which I use the Twenty Eleven theme. Is this possible, and if so, how?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Yes.

A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. A website is a page based site designed to operate as a one way means of communication ie. a noticeboard.

blog = site with post based structure
website = site with page based structure

Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page base, but let’s put that aside for the moment. Please read this entry > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

You can use any theme here at WordPress.com to create a page based structure ie. a website rather than a post based structure ie. a blog. Before you make any decisions at all read this comparison carefully please http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Also note that no WordPress.com themes can be exported and used on WordPress.org software.

On one hand, none of the characteristic “blog” features like categories, tags, authors, dates, etc. can be removed from a free hosted WordPress.com blog, without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.

On the other hand, one can edit a WordPress.org theme free of charge. That’s why I suggested you read the comparison > WordPress.com and WordPress.org: The Differences

If you are asking how can I have two theme on one blog then the answer is you can’t.

If you are asking how do I create a custom link to my Twenty Eleven blog and include it in the custom menu in my blog wearing the Hatch theme that can be done.

Thank you for the prompt reply!

The second part is the answer that I was looking for. I currently have a website hosted at GoDaddy.com, and my plan is to replace it with a website based off of either the Hatch or Imbalance 2 themes, and use the domain mapping feature to transfer over my domain (jasonpearlman.com). Since both themes have menu customization, I then want to have a link in the menu to my WordPress blog (jasonpearlman.wordpress.com).

One last question: my blog – sketchbook warrior – has the URL of jasonpearlman.wordpress.com. My website, which is hosted on GoDaddy, is jasonpearlman.com.

Is it possible to keep my blog with its current URL and create a website, using the Hatch theme, as jasonpearlman.com, providing I do so with domain mapping? If not, my thinking is to change the URL of my blog at sketchbookwarrior.wordpress.com, but will I be losing all of the data in the process, or merely have the same blog, but with a different URL?

Ultimately, the goal is to have a website with the URL of jasonpearlman.com (Hatch theme), and a blog with the URL of jasonpearlman.wordpress.com (Twenty Eleven theme).

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can render.
    -Jason
