Can I have a private blog with invited READERS (not contributers)?

  The topic says it all. I don’t see an option to invite readers- I want to be the only author. Thanks.

  Yes, if you go to options > privacy and select “I would like my blog to be visible only to users I choose” and then save, when the page refreshes, there will be a place where you can add up to 35 users. The people will have to sign up at wordpress.com for a username but they do not have to get a blog (selectable during sign up for an account). That is how wordpress keeps track of who can view your blog and who cannot.
