Can I have more than one blog address with the same profile?
-
Hello,
I was wondering if it is possible to create more than one blog with the same profile/account. For example http://sampleblog1.wordpress.com and http://sampleblog2.wordpress.com
I tried looking for an option to create a new blog domain in the dashboard but couldnt find one
Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes it is. Go to http://wordpress.com and in the bluish purple box where your username is shown, click on the link on the bottom that says, “Register another blog.”

You can have multiple blogs but can only designate one primary blog and list it in “website” on the Your Profile page.

However, there seems to be a real disadvantage. A friend of mine has 2 blogs, a big one about art and a little new one about the Romans. The big one gets lots of hits, the little one doesn’t get any. Now, when he writes a comment on other people’s blogs about the Romans, these people can only look him up on his art blog, as they will follow the link given by the avatar which belongs to the main blog.
Isn´t that so? And no way to change it?

That is true. I have the pretty much the same problem. I have one blog that I don’t want associated with my others. What I did was create separate login for my blogs because they’re all about radically different topics. I use my primary login to manage those blogs. What I did was log in as my other user and invite my primary user to be an administrator on my other blogs. That way I can keep one login for managing my blogs. But when I comment on other blogs, I have to log in and out of wordpress. Not a big deal though. Takes like 10 seconds if you have your username and password stored in the browser.

That sounds complicated.
Isn’t it easier to take out a different e-mail address and establish yourself as another user?

Hi Katm, would you please explain this more in depth. I am new to wordpress so I am not familiar with what you are saying. From what I understand you have a way to list all your blog urls. I have already chosen my blog names so I dont want to delete them b/c from what I understand you can’t get them back. So I won’t do that. If you would please let me know how I can list each of the urls as a link in the profile and also hide each of them from being associated with eachother. thanks a lot for reading and replying. :)

Sure no problem.
I have three blogs (well a couple more that are in various states of disarray, but 3 that I update regularly).
Blog 1 is http://dark2light.wordpress.com/ and I have an email address that goes with it. It’s associated with the username katm. This is my “primary blog”. I use this login on the forums. It’s the blog dashboard I have in my bookmarks.
Blog 2 is http://esladventures.wordpress.com/ and it has its own email address that goes with it. It’s associated with the username katiesue. And it’s about teaching English in Korea.
Blog 3 is http://theshellgame.wordpress.com/ and it also has its own email address. It’s associated with the username gnukathryn. It’s about learning to use Linux as an OS.
As blog 1 was my first blog, I’m using it as my master.
When I wanted to have a new blog, I created gmail accounts for each (not terribly creative, it’s just the blog name at gmail). Then I logged out of wordpress and I clicked the big green button to sign up for an account. I only signed up for the username, not the blog. Once I was logged in, I registered a blog. I did this because I didn’t want my username to be the same as my blog name. Skip this step if you don’t care.
Once you get to the dashboard of your new blog, you’ll want to invite your master account to be an administrator. Once you’ve gone through that process, log out of the new blog and log into your master account. When you hover your mouse over the blog name in you master blog, you’ll get a drop down with all of your blog.
And since a picture is worth a 1000 words…
When I want to comment on another teaching blog that is on wp.com, I have to log out of katm and log into katiesue. The same goes if I want to post on another computer blog. I have to log out of katm and log into gnukathryn.
I hope this makes some sense. I’m pretty tired right now, but I wanted to respond before this scrolled off the front page. Please email me through any of my blogs (address posted in the sidebar) if you have any other questions and I’ll try to answer them.
