Can I have multiple drop down menus?

  Unless I select one menu as a primary menu, it wont let me have multiple drop down menus. I know that I did all the sub menuing right. My menu looks like this:

  Knitting (page)
  Casting on (category)
  Basic Knit Stich (category)
  Casting off (category)

  I have watched many videos, and concluded that this is the right format. I have two menus that look exactly the same way. In that same format. I saved in (not as a primary menu) and when I went to my site, neither had a drop down menu. How can I make multiple menus have drop down menus?
