Can I have multiple portfolio pages on my blog?
-
I want to upload some projects to one portfolio page, and other projects to another page. I have the two pages set up, but they display the same content. Is there a way I can filter this and have two separate portfolio pages?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi thecreamarian,
I think the best way to do this would be to use Project Types. You can set the projects you want to show up on one page under one type, then the ones you want on the other page under the other type.
You can then create a link directly to those types where they will display all the projects in that project type.
You can see more info about it here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/
Let me know if that helps.

Hi Sandy-
Thanks, that’s exactly what I’d like to do, I just don’t quite understand how to set that up. I’ve visited the link you sent me. Can you point me in the right direction? Am I modifying the page url to a portfolio archive page with a project type?
Thanks for the help!

Hi,
What you’re saying sounds right. I would setup a custom menu and create links pointing to the Project Type Archive pages.
Here is info about Custom Menus
Let me know if that makes anymore sense.

It does in theory… but I think I’ve mucked it up a little. I used to have it set up as pages with the portfolio template (per the instructions on the portfolio page), I just couldn’t filter out certain projects; every project I uploaded would show up in both.
Now I’ve made custom menus with the location set as the permalink for project type archives. I still have the page titles in the menu bar on my blog, yet I deleted the pages so I’m not sure why they’re still there. Should I have kept the pages? There’s some step of this I’m not grasping. Basically.. I’m just getting myself a bit confused the more I mess around with things. More help please? :)

Hmm, it’s difficult without being able to see your blog but I’m sure we can get it worked out :-)
Which theme is it that you are using?
Do you have the pages in the custom menu or just the project type archive links?
Thanks.

Right. Yeah… I no longer know what I’m doing, haha.
I’m working on Ilustratr. And right now… I have the project type archive link as the destination for both custom menus. I also changed the permalink of the pages (set to portfolio template) to be the project type archive link. The menus/pages don’t link to anything anymore though. If I click on the pages that appear on my blog, it leads to the “Oops, nothing’s here” error.

I need to run out for a while now, but when I get back I’ll take a look. I’m sure we’ll get it worked.

Hi again, I’m back :-)
Hopefully this will help make it clearer.
Here is how I would do this. I’m working with the two default Project Types: Logo & Poster.
So I went to Appearance then Menus. I created a new menu called Projects and made sure I checked the Theme Location to be Primary Menu.
Then I added my links to it. I added a Home Page link, but the ones we are dealing with are the Project Types.
So in the left I selected Project Types
Clicked View All
Selected both Project Types
Clicked Add to Menu
Clicked Save MenuThen on my site my main navigation menu had three links in it Home, Logo, Poster.
Here is a screenshot of what my menu page looked like: https://cloudup.com/cYcSBlBVeaG
Let me know if that makes any sense?

Thank you so much! Your step by step instructions were (embarrassingly) exactly what I needed. :)
One last question–and this could be a simple “no it’s not possible,” but I figured while I’m curious I’ll ask anyway: Is there a way to change the header image for just those portfolio pages?
Thanks again!

No need to be embarrassed, I’m glad that worked.
You would be able to change the header image for those pages, but you would need to have the Custom Design Upgrade. Have you purchased that by chance?
If you have let me know and I can help you with the code that you would need to change it.
