Can I have new blog and domain name under existing account? Help with themes?

  • Unknown's avatar

    1. Can I create a new blog under my existing account, (ravensongpaddy) and point a new domain name to it?
    2. For my new blog I am happy to use a premium theme. How can I get some help in determining which theme is the most suitable? Can I for example post a question on premium theme support to find out which theme is best. Do I need to do a full specifiication of my needs on the new blog first. I get tired and confused searching through all the theme options.

Yes, you can register an additional blog to your account via http://wordpress.com/signup/ or your My Blogs page from your Dashboard.

Once you’ve registered that new site, you can map a domain to it by accessing your Store page from the Dashboard for that blog.

In terms of selecting a premium theme, you’re welcome to ask around in the forums. I’d also be happy to pull up some suggestions for you, if you don’t mind providing a few more details about what you’re looking for.

Thanks for the response Evarlese. I wrote up some specifications for my new project. Sorry it is a bit verbose, but you may be able to think of some themes that might suit. Paddy

    2. IT skills:Has existing blog http://www.ravensong.name Has created a number of google apps web sites. Competent with photo images. Has no skill in any programming languages including HTML and does not wish to acquire.
    3. Purpose of new blog/webb site: to create postings around philosophy, personal development, Buddhism, spirituality. In addition to specialise in material around the creation and running of mens groups ( self help therapy groups for men)
    4. Philosophy re blog/web site: To set it up for the new wave of cyber use, video, social networking etc. Capable of a high level of interaction with users.
    5. Design preferences: minimalist, modern, transparent, easy navigation. Capable of generating interest in viewers by the way the breadth and depth of the site is displayed on the home page
    6. Revenue generation: The basic intention is to create useful free resources. Revenue potential could be:
    a. ad revenue
    b. providing training workshops
    c. providing on line counselling using skype
    d. attracting consulting work in the topic area of the site
    e. providing a source of bookings for my weekend stays business for my house as shown at http://www.stayz.com.au/79742
    7. Payment system: I have a paypal account and can do business with that I do not need an ecommerce solution at the moment.
    8. Other Characteristics: I need an adjustable archiving system for posts, that I can change and edit as it grows, Creating and editing posts turning them into a web page structure would be good. I need an inquiry contact system or form which also can be stored into a database, along with a blog subsuscription system which I can also have in a database. I need an easy system for people to be able to download a variety of resources, audio, video and text based.
    9. Wordpress.com: I intend using wordpress.com and am happy to use a premium theme, partly because of the extra support available for premium themes.
    10. Expectation of Consultant: to provide me with focus and advise on the best way forward, providing suggestions as the most useful design or themes that might suit my needs. I am aware that I am not up to date with all the possibilities that could be useful for my project and that the consultant could point out opportunities for me. I have an initial budget of $200. I can do most of the work myself once the basic decisions are made. I would use the consultant on an hourly basis as and when needed as I progressed. Most important for me is a positive and creative relationship with my client. I am quite happy to provide a link on my site to the consultant.
    11. I realise that I might not have specified enough here and that the consultant may need additional information.

  • That ad revenue part is going to be a problem.

We do have an advertising program called WordAds, which you can apply for at http://en.wordpress.com/apply-for-wordads/

Advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com is not allowed. For full details, please see:
