Can I have one post show per page but multiple post titles pull up in a search?
-
Hi, all.
I write long posts with lots of photos, so I have my site set so that only one post pulls up at a time for swift page loading.
It seems, however, that when you do a search on my site, the search results also only show one post at a time, even though it’s just a brief summary of that post. This makes it appear that I have only one post per topic. There’s a tiny prompt at the bottom of this to click on to find “older posts” from that search but people don’t seem to get it. They think there’s only one result.
Is there any way to change this so that the search results list multiple results but the main page still only shows one post at a time? I use the Twenty Eleven Theme, but is there another similar theme that allows what I want to do?
I’m at allthoughtsworkoutdoors.wordpress.com
Thanks!

We have no control over what search engines choose to display. All search engine issues are between the blogger and the search engine http://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/

Okay. However, the answer is the same. We cannot the excerpt displayed in search results.

Setting your homepage to show 1 post at most also affects all other “index” type pages, such as categories, tags, archives, and as you noted, your own site’s search results.
Apparently it is possible to change this behavior if you have the Custom Design/CSS upgrade. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/show-more-posts-on-category-page-than-index-page?replies=7
Otherwise, I would suggest using other methods of posting photos in your posts that won’t have one long post running down the page, such as using the Gallery feature, the “more” tag or the “next page” tag.

“cannot the excerpt displayed”
I’m sorry. I’m visually challenged and missed a word that my app did not catch.
cannot alter the excerpt displayed

Thanks for the replies. But I just learned something interesting….
I use Twenty Eleven. I found someone who uses Twenty Ten and they only have one post show per page and yet multiple post summaries pull up after doing an internal search on their site.
Snort!
So, different themes have different display options?

Whether or not full posts, permalinked or thumbnails are displayed on Categories Pages and Archives pages is theme dependent ie. it’s coded into the template and we cannot edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/
In the majority of themes, posts on category or other archive pages show up just as they do on the main posts page in the blog and the number displayed is also the same. (See this page > Settings > Reading and note how many posts you choose there sets it for all). But in some themes only the beginnings of posts are shown, and in a few themes you only get titles or thumbnails. See here for a theme list of themes that may display the way you want > Category/archive pages: full posts or not http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/
If the theme has an active excerpt box below the post editor, you can control the length of the excerpt displayed and insert a thumbnail image.
You compose your whole post first and before you publish it you switch to the HTML (Text) editor, copy the code you want in the excerpt, paste it into the Excerpt box, and publish the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/#creating-excerpts
This will have to be done on every post. -
THAT is what I wanted to know, thank you!
My theme does not have an active excerpt box, though. Guess I’ll do some window shopping on the themes page.
Have a great weekend!

Hello, the force must be strong with me today, because I think my earlier reply might be invisible. ;)
