Can I have two blogs within one site?
-
I’m trying to set up a course site that will have two blogs – one for announcements and assignments and one for student discussion. I don’t want to mix the two, nor do I want all posts on one page. Does anyone know how this could be done?

Hello there. You can register as many blogs as you need. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
When we register a username account here the email address we provide becomes our unique identifier. When we are logged into WordPress.com and register a blog it’s registered to that username account we are logged in under and to the email address which is our unique identifier. We can register as many blogs as we wish and provided we are using the same username account then all the blogs will be registered under it and the associated email account. We can change our “display name” but that display name will appear on all blogs registered under the same username account.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/#change-display-name-nicknameIn order to completely separate the blogs that are not associated with each other you register another username account using a different email address when you are logged out of WordPress.com. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/ Then you add the new username account as an official user of the blog, and designate them (ie. you) as an Admin. Next you transfer one of the blogs to the new username account using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

Sorry, I guess I wasn’t being clear enough. I want two blogs in ONE site. I don’t want multiple blogs (in fact, I already have multiple blogs). I would like to have multiple pages that allow posts in one site.

Thanks for your help. In case anyone else is reading this, I found that it can be done on google sites. Not as nice of a site at all, but more flexibility for teachers needing several “posts” pages. If anyone from wordpress is reading this, that would be a great feature to add.

You can easily mimic the effect using the Author widget or a Custom Menu, but that’s not what you asked for. You asked for two separate blog pages.

I did notice that option, but it seemed like that would simply sort some of the posts to a separate page rather than allowing for two entirely different kinds of dialogues in different spaces with different permissions. If you have any other advice, let me know. Otherwise, I’m sticking with google sites and its less than optimal interface and limited options. Thanks again.

What you want is not possible here. It’s possible on WordPress.org, but not WordPress.com. And good luck with Blogspot.
