Can I hyperlink a page title in my menu bar?
-
I’d like to have one of my top menu tabs go directly to my other blog. Is there a way to link it so it will go straight over instead of opening a page?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, you can create custom links in Custom Menus. Go to your menu and in the left modules, click “Links” and then enter the URL and the label you wish to have on that menu item and then add it to the menu, position it where you want it and then save the menu.
-
Cool! Does this mean that they never access the actual page that the menu tab represents ?

Ummmmm :) on another note, same mailing? Short burst of success at the end of the season :)

Yes there is. Go back to the Custom Menu, edit that menu item and there is a checkbox below the label field to have it open in a new tab/window.

I’m not able to find it. It’s different than the hyperlink menu when you’ve added a hyperlink in the page editing box. When I go to Custom Menu, I can’t find that box below the label field… or anywhere.

Sorry, right under the Navigation Label field where it says, Little Puppet Studio. Check that little box.

Oh dear, what am I missing? Am I in the wrong place? I go to the dashboard, to Appearance, to Menus, to Edit Menus, to the tab in my menu with Little Puppet Studio (w/ “custom” on the right), and click the tiny arrow to open it.
Once open, it says URL, and has a place for the url.
Under that are two fields, one say Navigation Label and the other Title Attribute.
Under those is a series of link choices: Up one, Down one, Under Teaching…, To the top.
Under those, Remove and Cancel. No little box to check anywhere (like there is in the hyperlink page edit option).

In http://theshepherdschild.wordpress.com, if you click on the “Little Puppet Studio link in the top navigation, it now opens a new tab. Were you in the dashboard of theshepherdschild?

Yes, I was in the dashboard. But I am thoroughly confused! Where did you get that menu box? I never found it! (my techno dolt reputation may be showing :) )
And thanks for fixing it!

I went to Appearance > Menu and in the saved menu at right (with all the menu items in it) I clicked on the right end of that menu item.
You are welcome, and no dolt, we are all always learning. :)

Well, there is definitely a difference from my box to yours. I’ve done exactly as you instruct from the start, and my grey box, which looks much like yours, is missing many of the options yours has. Can you tell me how to post a screen shot? I’d like to see what the difficulty is, because I may want to use this feature again.
I checked both of my blogs sporting Motif theme, and they both have the same lack of options in the menu.

@belleweatherfarm, you probably have the option you’re looking for turned off in the Screen Options.
Each WordPress.com admin screen has a Screen Options tab near the top right. If you click on that, you’ll see some checkboxes that let you turn various parts of the screen on or off. To find the option you want, go to Appearance > Menus, click the Screen Options tab, then check the box for “Link Target.” You should be able to see the option you want in the menu after that.

Getting closer, but not yet! The box is there in the Screen Options tab, but when I check it, it doesn’t “hold”, and I don’t see any way to “save” the setting. When I move away, there is no change in the menu boxes below, and when I reopen the Screen Options tab, it is unchecked again.
Thanks for chiming in!

Not sure why that is not showing up for you when you go to Custom Menu. I’m looking into this. Haven’t had any other mentions of this problem, but then again there might not be too many people that would be using it.
