Can I insert a post with an older date?

Can I insert a post with an older date? I started homeschooling in August and just decided to start a blog about it. I have emails and content but I’d like to put an August date on them?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes you can backdate posts. See this entry and especially the images on scheduling posts so you know how to change the date in the publish module. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/schedule-a-post/

Yes, you can do that.
If you have email subscribers, the notification will go out as usual but with the older date. That older date (I believe) is also reflected in the date of publication for the Reader. So even though it’s a “new” post, it will be in shown the Reader on the older publication date.
What not to do, ever:
If you publish a post, with a specific date (and the date is always a part of the link to a post on WordPress.com), then don’t change the date later! If search engines have indexed your site, then readers will see a 404 not found error because you have altered the link to the post.
