Can I install a purchased WordPress theme on a WordPress.com hosted website?

  I am helping a friend set up her website which is currently hosted with WordPress.com. She would like to install a WordPress theme (there is a free and a purchasable pro version) but I can’t seem to find the theme in the WordPress theme search, no can I find a way to install it. Is this option available for a WordPress.com hosted site or do we need to transfer to self-hosting with WordPress to install or load a purchased theme?

  Hi artzykid,

  You have it right. You can’t upload themes on WordPress.com. She will need to go the self-hosted route in order to use that particular theme if it does not appear in WordPress Themes.
