Can I just buy a domain?

Hello!
I want to buy a domain but every time I try to do this it includes the Premium upgrade which I do not want. Is it possible to just buy a domain on wordpress.com or do I have to upgrade my plan too?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Every site comes with a free address with .wordpress.com in the URL. You can hide the .wordpress.com part by registering a new domain if you have purchased a WordPress.com plan: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

Hi there, It also depends on what you are trying to do. If you want to use that domain with a site here on WordPressdotcom, you would need to purchase one of our plans.

So if I already have a blog with a .wordpress.com adress, I must buy a plan? Or I can simply buy a domain, change my blog url and usit it wherever I want?

To add to all the information you have already been provided I always think it’s more straightforward if you have a domain and a site in the same place. If you buy an upgraded plan here (the Personal plan will work as well as the Premium plan) you get the option of a free custom domain to use with your WordPress.com site. If you buy just a custom domain here to use somewhere else you’ll no doubt still have to pay that somewhere else as well to host your domain (and that somewhere else is probably offering a free custom domain if you buy one of their plans anyway).

So if I pay for a plan and a domain for a year, after the years passed, can I just continue to pay for a domain and not for the plan?
When I tried the Personal plan, before I cancel it I had the option to continue paying for the domain and stick with a free plan. -
No, you need to renew the plan annually so the domain also renews annually and you can use that address with your WordPress.com site. The option to cancel a plan yet keep paying just for the domain is if you’re planning on pointing your domain somewhere else other than your WordPress.com site.
