Can I keep a theme I've purchased previously and erase the current blog content?

Can I erase all the content from my existing blog (“all-purpose and semi-sweet”) but keep the theme I paid for (Just Desserts)? Basically, I’d like to start from scratch, with a new site URL and blog title (“not another foodswing”), but I don’t want to have to pay for the exact same theme I already bought. It’s really important to me that the URL does not read “http://allpurposeandsemisweet.wordpress.com” when I want my new blog to come up as “http://notanotherfoodswing.wordpress.com”. Thanks for your help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

That is not a problem! We can clear all of the contents from your blog for you and then once we have done so, you can change the name of your blog by following the instructions found in this article:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

Please note that once you change your blog’s address, you cannot change it back and neither you nor anyone else will be able to use that name again. As long as you’re OK with that then everything will be fine!

Let me know if you’d like me to proceed!

Thanks a lot for the prompt reply! I am still a little confused – from that article it sounds like my blog name can be changed at any time but my site URL will remain unchanged. Have I misunderstood?

Also, today I created a second WordPress blog with the blog name/site URL I currently want (the “not another foodswing” one)…before I thought of the idea to clear the contents but keep the template from my original blog. If I delete this new & basically blank blog permanently, could I use that blog name/site URL again in place of all purpose and semi sweet (or would it be too late to use that name again, in that case?)? Thanks for your patience.

    Hi there,

No, your URL would change in that situation. If you started out with “acoolsite.wordpress.com” and changed it to “anawesomesite.wordpress.com” that would work, but as I warned you, you could not get “acoolsite.wordpress.com” back.

And in regards to your question, since you’ve already set up that new blog, this will sadly not work for you as that blog name is already in existence.

Instead, what we can do is move the premium theme which you’ve purchased over to the new blog. If you’d like to do that, let me know and I can get the ball rolling.

    Hello again,

Okay, so what I’ve decided I’d like to do is keep the blog “http://allpurposeandsemisweet” and the theme “Just Desserts” that I bought last summer, but I’d like to clear all of the contents so I can start fresh. I’ve saved everything I want to hang on to, and I’m ready to have you get the ball rolling! Thanks so much.

    Hi Hannah,

I want to make sure of absolutely everything before I get started because once I do this there will be no going back!

    You would like to:

    * Keep the site allpurposeandsemisweet.wordpress.com
    * Have me remove all content and posts from it (effectively take it back to as if it was a new blog, except it will still have its premium theme attached)
    * Do nothing to the site notanotherfoodswing.wordpress.com

Is all of that correct? If so, let me know!

  • Unknown's avatar

    That is all correct!

    Hi Hannah,

You’re all set! All of your content has been removed. Your theme is still set (as are the widgets), but everything else is gone!

Time for you to get started designing your new masterpiece! ;)

Let me know if you need anything else.

Oh just one more question! I’ve created 3 pages: Mademoiselle Moodswing, In the Kitchen, and In the Gym. Would it be possible for them to appear in that order (instead of the order they are currently in) and is there a way for me to delete the “Home” page that came with the theme? Thanks again! I really appreciate all that you’ve done.

    Hi there,

You can indeed do that! The best and easiest way is with a Custom Menu. You can create a custom menu by following this help article:

    Hi there,

One additional question: How can I add a link to my Pinterest, My Fitness Pal, and Instagram accounts to my main page? I tried doing it through the “Widget” platform…but it won’t let me hyperlink the links.

    Thanks!

    Heya!

Well, you have a couple of options, but I think the best bet would probably be for you to create the links through the Link function in your Dashboard and then use the Link widget.

We’ve got a whole help article which will walk you through the entire thing:
