Can I keep the Manifest theme & index it?
-
Manifest has an Archives page, and I would like to be able to index this by century, stylistic movement, etc. Can I do this, or will I have to change the theme? If I have to change, is there a theme which works like Manifest, with a single column of text, interspersed with images? I would be very grateful if anyone can help me, please…

Hi Lynn,
The Archive page template is preset by the theme in a particular format as shown in this example:
You will not be able to edit the format of the archive page at WordPress.com. When you say “century, stylistic, movement, etc”, are these specific categories of posts on your site? I don’t currently see these categories here:
https://theframeblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
If you created the categories and assigned posts to those categories, we could manually create an archive page listing posts in certain categories. We would want to use this shortcode:
For example, if you created a category titled “Century” (or “Twentieth Century”…not sure how these would be organized), we could display only those posts with the following shortcode:
[display-posts category="century"]Would that work?

Dear Jeremey,
Thank you very much for responding to my questions so quickly.
My Archives page doesn’t have divisions like that; it’s just a list of all the articles in chronological order, which is becoming unwieldy for people to access: https://theframeblog.wordpress.com/archives/
I didn’t know that I could set up categories to distinguish articles; I thought that I just had ‘Articles’, ‘Events’ and ‘Uncategorized”. How could I set up other categories, and could I categorize things in two ways? – e.g 15th century, 16th century, &c., &c., and also Italian, French, Netherlandish, &c., &c.
If I did what you have suggested for the centuries, they would fall into order if numeric, wouldn’t they?
Sorry to be dense, but the blog is now sponsored, so I’ve got to get it right. Is there any theme like Manifest which would do instead? Manifest is so brilliant because it has no distractions, and on a phone just gives a column of text and images, which is perfect for what I want.
Thank you so much for helping me –
With best wishes,
Lynn

PS I have bought the domain name ‘theframeblog.com’ from somewhere called ‘GoDaddy’ (simply because it went via my cousin’s domain); does this mean that I can’t use it for my WordPress site?

Definitely! You can setup categories as explained here:
Then, you can add multiple categories to a particular post. For example, a post could be categorized as 16th Century and French. It would then show up under both categories.
If I did what you have suggested for the centuries, they would fall into order if numeric, wouldn’t they?
I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking. You can think of categories as a sort of mini blog within your blog. For example, let’s say you setup a category titled “French.” Any post you assigned to that category would show up here:
https://theframeblog.wordpress.com/category/french
On that page, you would see posts arranged from oldest to newest.
Is there any theme like Manifest which would do instead? Manifest is so brilliant because it has no distractions, and on a phone just gives a column of text and images, which is perfect for what I want.
I think we’ll be able to achieve the look you’re going for while keeping the Manifest theme! If any of these others catch your eye though, let me know. I’m happy to go over any theme details:

You can still use it with your WordPress.com site! You’ll just need to change the name servers to point the domain to WordPress.com as explained here:
