Can I legally use .org for my foundation blog domain?
-
I need some advise on setting up a second blog.
My new second blog will focus on the English Scholars Fund which I’ve setup within my university’s Scholarship Gift and Grant Dept. Since this is a “non-profit” enterprise, should I use the .org or .com domain tag?
Also, I was testing ideas with: georgekbrannenfund /Wordpress.com, and was indecisive about “bundling” or not; as usual I went to find more data; now, I retry the same domain name and I’m told that domain is already “in use” and is not available. I believe that should not be registered, since I haven’t upon my direction yet. (Besides, I’m sure I want this to be a more custom blog. Can you help?
Thanks so much. I’ve been toying with this idea for days; so I’m not surprised if I did something “not quite right.
Gooddae!

Hi George,
Since this is a “non-profit” enterprise, should I use the .org or .com domain tag?
This is really up to you, many non-profits use .org domains, but there are no rules governing who can or cannot use .com or .org. You could even register both extensions for the same domain name, if you wish, so that people can find you more easily.
Also, I was testing ideas with: georgekbrannenfund /Wordpress.com, and was indecisive about “bundling” or not; as usual I went to find more data; now, I retry the same domain name and I’m told that domain is already “in use” and is not available.
You have purchased the Pro Bundle and registered the domain name georgekbrannenfund.com on January 5, 2013. You can review (and cancel, where applicable) your upgrades under Store > My Upgrades in your Dashboard.

Jenia,
Thank you very much for your help and advice. I just want to make sure everything is “legal.” Also, the reason I chose the “bundle,” I wasn’t really sure what I would need to put this blog-page together; it was just easier. You have a great year, and thanks for the reply.
Best!

Jenia,
I’ve given this a lot of thought, and I need your help with some changes.
Things I don’t understand:
1. I would like to change my domain to: georgekbrannenfund.org, from “.com,” and retain my “bundle” purchase with this change. (I just feel the .org sounds better for my format.)
2. Also,I would like to have two separate blogs, independent of each other, but connected through a link via blogroll. (I think, if I read correctly, I can do this with a second e-mail address? *I got a bit confused with the mapping section, but I don’t believe “redirecting” is what I had in mind.
*Before I decided to ask your assistance, I did read all … until confusion set-in, and I’d rather not screw this up … thank you! I know you folks must get lotsa questions everyday, so I appreciate your help.
Best!

Jenia,
I’ve registered a new blog name: georgekbrannenfund.org, which I think will serve my needs better. Why can’t I find it on the “net”? I’ve looked everywhere, but found no resolve. Can you help?
Thanks!

Hi George, sorry for the delay in response. Looks like you are mostly set by now!
I would like to change my domain to: georgekbrannenfund.org, from “.com,” and retain my “bundle” purchase with this change. (I just feel the .org sounds better for my format.)
You’ve done that, and both georgekbrannenfund.com and georgekbrannenfund.org point to your blog/site, with georgekbrannenfund.org being the primary domain. It takes some time for the new domain to be registered by the search engines.
Also,I would like to have two separate blogs, independent of each other, but connected through a link via blogroll.
You can view the list of your blogs here: https://wordpress.com/#!/my-blogs/
And here you’ll find the instructions for the links menu: https://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/

Jenia,
Thanks for getting back-to-me. Yeh, things seem to be going OK, but I’ve still a ways to go. Trying to settle on the right image, which blog I’d like to be primary, and such. Now that I have’m both up and running; I feel the need to “tweek,” and see what looks and works for me.
Thanks for the info links. I’m probably gonna see just how complicated I can make this.
Good dae 2ya!
