can I link a word to a short music file and play it without leaving the window?
-
Link question. I link a word to a sound file and I do not want the music file (in the instance) to open in another window. I just would like the short piece of classical music to play when the visitor clicks on the word-link. The link works OK but it still opens an audio-player window. The blog in question is:

The link word I used was the first “daffodils”
Could you please help? thank youThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Not a word link, no. You can easily use an audio player but not a word link. You could use a word link to link to an mp3, but you would then have no control over how the reader played it, whether it opened in a new window or wiped your blog off the screen or what.

Please also note that this site is not a WordPress.COM blog. You are in the wrong forum; details about the differences between the various sorts of WordPress:

Here is the link to the wp.ORG forum: http://wordpress.org/support/BTW, I don’t see a link to any audio file. There is a link to a YouTube. On wp.ORG you can use Jetpack to easily embed YouTube videos: readers won’t have to leave your page to see and hear those.

1tess. Thank you. I disabled the word-link when I found that the link opened in a new page that was empty but for the progressing bar showing the advancing of the music. Incidentally, I found that if I right-clicked on the word-link and chose ‘Open in a new tab’ it actually started playing the tune without leaving the page. Therefore I thought that this could be a possible hidden option of sorts. I still think that the word-link to music would be a fine option. It opens some interesting possibilities, especially in the world of art, associating music and poetry. I tried both uploading the file from the media file and using the link with the same result (i.e. new window open).
Thank you also for directing me to the right forum. -
Yes, well, with wp.ORG you can find all sorts of plugins one cannot use on wp.COM. I’m sort of a wimp on technology, so with my wp.ORG sites, I stick to plugins with high ratings, and experiment before using any very widely. But some are so enticing…
I’m sure you’ll have some fun exploring the possibilities over there!
BTW, you are welcome to advice here but it mostly won’t apply to wp.ORG–best to ask there…
