Can I link .jpg images to a downloadable .tif version?
-
Is there a way to link a .jpg image on a page to a downloadable full-size .tif version of that image? I know that you cannot display .tif format images within web pages, but it seems like other web sites often have a way for visitors to download a high-res, print-quality version of an image. Searched support and forum files for this but didn’t find anything addressing it.

Hi there,
Currently, we don’t support .tif uploads. However, we can accomplish this two different ways:
1. You can host the photo elsewhere and add a link below the photo that links to the downloadable image.
2. You can upload the image and insert it into your post in a smaller size. However, you can link the image to the attachment page. To do that, just change the “Link to” field shown here to “Attachment page”:

The “Attachment page” should be the full image size.
Would either of those options work?

When you say “host the photo elsewhere,” are you’re saying that there’s no place within this WP.com-hosted where I can upload a file/tif?
Looking at my Dashboard, it does seem like the Media Library is the only place for uploading things. So sounds like I’ll have to store it on another of my sites and link to it there? :-(

Hi,
Yes – WordPress.com does not support .tif uploads as explained here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/media-add-new/
By hosting the photo elsewhere, I’m referring to hosting them on another platform as a means of storage (somewhere .tif files are accepted). Then, you could add them to your blog using the source URL as described here:
Otherwise, you would need to convert them into an accepted file format and upload them to your Media Library at WordPress.com.
Does that help to clarify?

Thanks Jeremey. That does clarify it for me.
Sounds like it’ll be easier/make more sense for me to create this particular site (of scanned family photos that other family members will want to download for printing) on my self-hosted WordPress.ORG site. -
If .tif files will be your main method of file uploading, that may indeed make more sense. Please let me know if you need any additional help setting that up or have any additional questions regarding your WordPress.com blog!
