Can I link my global dashboard to my wordpress websites?
-
Hi guys,
I am trying to figure out if I can link all my current wordpress websites to my global dashboard account? I have created a few wordpress sites and would like to link them if possible.
Thank you,
Paul -
We need links to those blogs before we can actually tell you what is possible and what is not.
-
One link is to a company website here is the link. http://www.diamondpoolandspacare.com
The other blogs are under construction but will be up soon.
-
If the blogs are hosted at WordPress.com, then yes. If they are hosted elsewhere, then no. WordPress.com is its own self-contained community and external blogs can’t be added to it.
-
I’m interested. How do I submit my links? And is the ‘global dashboard’ both wordpress.com and wordpress.org or are we talking just wordpress.com here?
-
You don’t submit your links. If your site is hosted elsewhere it cannot be part of the WordPress.com community, tag system, admin bar, global dashboard etc. You can use the stats program but that’s it.

ok, it’s confusing language with wordpress.org and wordpress.com – i have a website i just migrated over to wordpress.com and before i understood there was a difference i created a wordpress.com blog.
i’m trying to figure out how to utilize the benefits of wordpress.com for my blog while obviously having my website on wordpress.org. i’ve literally been trying to find information about this for four hours. ANY help would be so appreciated. i’m trying to ask wordpress.org about this, too.. thanks :) -
You cannot do both. You can either host it elsewhere or host it here. Only you can decide which is most appropriate for your blog, because we don’t know what you need, do we? Read this:

so are you saying that you know nothing about a site with practically the same url as yours and that you are therefore going to continually get questions about? it would be helpful if you answered the portions of my questions that relate to wordpress.com. i mean, it seems like you’re saying that you have no experience with wordpress.org-wordpress.com blog compatibility, transfer, connection, etc. i find that difficult to believe myself, seeing as how long each wordpress has been around and how inevitable the questions i’m asking have got to be.
i’d already read the linked article you provided before asking my question, and it clarified the differences without covering clearly the compatibility question. where is this information: can i connect my wp.com blog to a wp.org blog? thank you for digging deep! -
-
WordPress.ORG blogs stand alone. They are an island unto themselves. They cannot be connected to wordpress.COM. It is impossible. It cannot be done.
If you want the benefits of the wordpress.COM community, then the blog has to be hosted here at wordpress.COM.
-
We can tell you how to move a blog from WordPress.com to an independent install. We can tell you how to import a blog from a WordPress.org install to WordPress.com. That’s it.

How did my thread get jacked? I just want to know if I can link up the stats of all my other wordpress sites (hosted elsewhere) on global dashboard? I essentially want to be able to use the plugin wp-stats-dashboard but with a free API.
-
You can get a separate plugin for your wordpress.ORG site. They are totally separate. Each site has it’s own stats and there is no means of aggregating them on your global dashboard or by any other means.
-
timethief, do you have any suggestions on which plugins you recommend for this? I am not that savvy yet on wordpress and would appreciate any guidance. :)
-
We do not provide support or advice for wordpress.ORG installs here at wordpress.com. See here > http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/
If you wish to use the wordpress stats plugin on your wordpress.ORG install then your need a username account here at wordpress.com to get the API key. http://en.support.wordpress.com/api-keys/
-
Ok thank you for the links. I found my API key for wordpress.COM can I use that same key to track on all of my wordpress (hosted elsewhere) websites? Or does the key only track one website? Thanks again for your input and help.
-
Use the same key for all sites. After that you can see all your sites’ stats on page https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats
just use the dropdown list to select the site. The blogs using stats should be linked automatically to your wordpress.com account and you can see a list of them on this page: https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs -

@Raincoaster – now i think you might be starting to hear what i’ve been saying all along. what exactly are the steps for moving a wordpress.com blog to an independent install, and what exactly do you mean by independent install?
(are you, for instance, referring to wordpress.org as an independent install or is this reference to some other website or something else entirely? please be clear, thanks.)
what i want to do is basically blog in wp.com and have those posts show up in wp.org – is this what you are talking about? your language below is vague. OR, perhaps if this isn’t an option then i would want to blog in wp.org and have that show up in wp.com. is that what you are saying below??“We can tell you how to move a blog from WordPress.com to an independent install. We can tell you how to import a blog from a WordPress.org install to WordPress.com. That’s it.”
