Can I make a file downloadable from my blog

I am giving a talk to people interested in starting a family history project and one of the things I want to recommend is that they set up a ‘closed’ WordPress blog devoted to the project. They’ll be able to tell people from their extended family about their researches and request feedback and information. But it would also be useful if they could make files available for download from their blogsite – like a PDF version of a draft family tree. Is there any way this could be achieved on a WordPress.Com blog? If not WordPress, are there other ‘free’ blogsites that allow this?

Your idea of using blogs set to private for families that are interested in exploring their family history is a great one. It gives any family member with internet access the ability to share and participate at a centralized location and has a lot of advantages over doing it by email.
Kudos to you for doing this.
