Can I make any theme look like this site?
-
I’m considering moving over to the wordpress.com for the ease of use. However, I’ve been unable to satisfy my requirements from any themes. Now, I know that we can modify the CSS only and not the actual template.
In short, I’ve my nuts on getting my site look like http://www.umpcportal.com/
Which theme has the potential to do so(even though it may require purchasing and modifying the CSS)
thanks in advance

Looks like your bog-standard three-column theme, two sidebars on the right. You can use Sandbox for that. Sandbox is bare of CSS, has nothing whatsoever inside it in terms of design until you put it there; it has only functionality.

Oops, guess that link won’t work. Check out the Sandbox Three Column Minimalist Right-Aligned.

Thanks for the reply. I have a couple questions regarding sandbox theme
1) sandbox theme has one sidebar only.
2) there is no provision to put in a logo in any of the sandbars theme -
Sandbox comes in a variety of options. Raincoaster suggested the three column theme which should meet your needs.
If you’re using CSS, you can put your logos anywhere you like! But do be aware that there’s very little CSS support here on the forums. You’re expected to know what you’re doing before you buy the upgrade. Try playing around with the free preview feature before you decide to spend your money.

odd. I’m unable to display the 3rd column. I know, using CSS we can put the logos anywhere. But, using the layers only I guess. There is no built in support in the sandbox themes for the logo. And the sad part is: you can’t edit the template :(

The CSS upgrade can by applied to any theme, not just Sandbox, so if the structure of another would suit you better, you could try that.

The three column version is available under Sandbox but not (so far as I can see) under Sandbox 10. Activate the Sandbox theme and then there should be an option on the Design dashboard called Sandbox skins. Pick the one that suits you best.
I’m not sure what you mean by ‘built in support’ for the logo?
You can’t edit any of the templates at WP.com. If you need greater flexibility in terms of the functionality of the blog, you might be better off at WP.org. If you’re just interested in appearance, you really can achieve almost anything with the CSS.
