Can I make money using wordpress blog?

Will I be able to make money by using worldpress blog site? My intention is to blog so I can make an income. Please explain any differences from ‘Perez Hilton’s” site and yours.

As for differences, WordPress.com is a free blogging service, whereas Perez Hilton’s site is hosted via a hosting provider or dedicated server which costs money, and the site was probably professionally designed.
