Can I make my archive posts smaller/ show more per page?

  Is there anyway of making the posts in the archive pages smaller so more posts can be shown per page? It just seems like a waste of space having such large posts, I was wondering if I could condense them more like on the front page somehow?

  Is it possible to put some code in or something that makes the images smaller or something? I am not great with this so any help would be much appreciated.
