Can I make selected posts invisible on the front page?

  • Unknown's avatar

We are planning to use WordPress as a ‘Project Management Reporting Tool’ at work and would like people to post their project updates through posts.

However, we want few posts not to be displayed on the front page but still be visible under categories or tags or author archive or month archive etc. It’s just the front page visibility that I want to avoid. Is this/ How is this possible? Please help

    My blog is http://eglog.wordpress.com

    Many thanks
    K

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m afraid that there really isn’t a practical way to do that whilst retaining accurate date information; you could ensure that they wouldn’t appear on the front page by back-dating them.

Or, perhaps if date information isn’t that important, you could use Pages instead of Posts for those articles?

@karthik01: If backdating won’t do, then maybe you can simply set your front to display a static page instead of your latest posts, and rely on sidebar navigation only.

I can think of a (more complicated) way to approach what you’re looking for, but again it would involve a static front. If that would do for you, I need to know which theme you’re using.

Thank you hanni and panaghiotisadam for your responses.

@hanni: I am afraid back dating wouldn’t be an option as we would certainlywant to
know the ‘time’ when the project is at particular status.

@panaghiotisadam: I am also afraid, having a static page wouldn’t work for us as
we would be using the blog, besides project updates, for other
purposes such as sharing our best practices which may require front
    page displays.

I am on Monochrome theme just now but I am still very happy to look
into suggestions and change my approach.

I wonder if this feature can be made available in the future – I
am sure it opens several possibilities as you what we can do on
    Wordpress.

    Many thanks again

Then it can’t be done. (For what it’s worth, the way I thought of would include a “Recent Posts” tab – which can be made selective.)

hmm :-( Wonder if this feature would be available in the future,
    by any chance?

    Thanks
