Can I map a .co.za domain name to my WordPress blog?
-
I tried upgrading to map the domain to my WordPress blog, but it didn’t allow me to complete the mapping. I have not yet registered or purchased the domain name, as when I attempt to do so with the South African registrar, it asks for Primary and Secondary DNS for my hosting server. I have tried to enter WordPress’s DNS’s on the registration application with the South African registrar, but it rejects it on the basis of the hosting DNS’s not being able to be verified. I seem to have a chicken-and-egg situation and hope someone can help me overcome it. Thanks in advance.

The staff need to add a zone record for the domain name you have registered – (not the xx.wordpress.com one)
I will flag this for staff attention on the theory you will post the domain name you have purchased and want to map to your blog here

You are welcome –
But you still need to post the domain name you are trying to map to your blog here – the staff are good but they are not mind readers

@auxclass: Oops! Sorry! The domain name I’m trying to map is http://www.allkindsofdelicious.co.za. As I mentioned in my first post, I have not purchased or registered the domain name here in South Africa yet, though I know it is available to purchase. I’m not sure whether the fact that it is not yet registered to me will affect the solution or not. As soon as I can get the primary and secondary DNS for the hosting site here on WordPress, I should be able to register the .co.za domain name.

You need to purchase the domain name first – you will not be able to purchase it through WordPress.COM due to limitations of their Registrar – once the domain name is purchased a zone record needs to be added here then you map the domain name to your blog.

I tried to purchase the domain name, but the registration failed due to the fact that the registrar in South Africa could not find the nameservers for WordPress. Not sure if that’s an international registration problem, or whether the DNS I entered on the registration form was incorrect (Primary DNS I entered was NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, and Secondary DNS I entered was NS2.WORDPRESS.COM). To register the domain name http://www.allkindsofdelicious.co.za, I need the DNS’s for the domain hosting site (which I’m assuming is WordPress). I apologise if I seem totally inept about this. I have a relatively sketchy knowledge of this field, and am having to navigate some fairly unfamiliar territory in trying to get this website set up, as I am doing it myself, rather than using a web hosting service. I do appreciate the help very much. :)

I have manually added a zone record for your domain.
You should now be able to map it here following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

staff-blorbo: Thank you so much for your help. I’ll try mapping the domain again now. :)

Everything is working perfectly now. Thanks, macmanx and auxclass for your assistance. :)
