Can I map a godaddy www.[name of site].com domain name to my existing wordpress?

Can I map an existing www subdomain to my WordPress site?
My friend has purchased us a domain name from Godaddy to use with our site. I noticed that I need to pay $13 to map from this Godaddy domain to our wordpress site. My question is, what does it mean when it says “Sorry but ‘www’ subdomain cannot be mapped to a WordPress.com blog.”? So I can’t map this domain to our wordpress site?Sorry if this answer is embedded somewhere already in the help section… I’m just so snowed under with so many things to do, I don’t really understand all the jargon or have time to go through your help section. I just need a simple answer to the above question (and if the answer is “no” some explanation as to why not would be great!)… I’d be very appreciative, thanks.
