Can I merge categories?
-
I am trying to clean up my blog, which is a school newspaper, and condense the number of categories to a more appropriate number. But the paper has a lot of articles from years past under old categories. Is there a way, for instance, that I could take all the articles in the “Student Events” category and put them under “News” by merging the “Student Events” category into “News”?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Mr. Sheehy!
There is a way to do this with a bulk edit. It’s not an automatic adjustment, but it’s less labor intensive than opening each post and changing its category one at a time.
- To do this, click Posts → All Posts.
- On the left, next to each Post’s title, you’ll see a check box. Click the box for ALL the posts you want to recategorize.
- Now click the Bulk Actions drop down box and choose Edit.
- Under the Categories header, you can change the categories of those Posts.
- Click Update.
That will do the trick. You can move onto the next page and continue the process.
I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

My pleasure. I can imagine that the thought of doing each post one-by-one would be exhausting!
