Can I monetize a personal site?

I would like to run ads like the premium site…can this be done with the personal account?

Users with Premium & Business plan automatically qualify for WordAds program, which is official WordPress.com advertising program.
WordPress.com bloggers, who are using a Free or Personal Plan, have moderate to high traffic and appropriate content also have the option to apply to the WordAds program.

Thanks for the speedy response! So…if I upgrade to the Personal Plan it looks like I will be able to apply to the WordAds program…do you know if that’s an easy process?

WordAds and is for sites on their own custom domains that have enough traffic to qualify for acceptance into the plan.

https://wordads.co/faq/Yes, you can do that under the personal plan but you need to add the plan first. If you add the domain first, Premium is selected automatically.
Go to My Site ->Plans and buy the Personal Plan, and then you can go back and claim your free domain at My Site ->Domains ->Add.

Since the program works with mapped domains only, you will need minimum Personal plan.
You will need to get moderate to high traffic to your blog and post appropriate content. The process of applying is quite easy.
