Can I organize media in Media Library, perhaps into folders?

As I add images to my Media Library, they are becoming unwieldy to sort through, (especially when I want to reuse an image). Is there any way I can organize them into folders or lists so I can find what I need more quickly?

Not currently.
If you upload images to a post or Page, choose the drop down menu to see only the images uploaded to that post or Page in the media uploader.
There is talk of adding tags and better categorization of images, but currently that is not available.
Most people upload to a post or Page and not in bulk before adding the images to their content.

the new system has a search function for media – give that a try – worked nice for me the other day

And the way you name your images has an effect on how findable / searchable they are. A lot of cameras just have numbers to identify the title of the image; it’s a good idea to add a name when you process and compress and save your image on your computer before you upload it.
I save my compressed images in folders on my computer so that makes it easy to find / search for them in my media library.
