Inviting users doesn’t meet my needs. This for family now and in the future. What if I’m incapacitated or dead. This is my legacy as the name implies.

Thanks for writing to us about this question. I want to make sure I have a good understanding of your concern and help you make the best plan for future proofing the site.

It sounds like you want the site to only be visible to a select group of folks rather than the entirety of the internet. Is that right?

There are a few ways to do this. You can make the site private which hides it from search engines, and requires that you as the site owner approve any viewers.

There’s an option to password protect specific information on the site. So certain pages or posts could be hidden, but the site on a whole, still visible to the entirety of the internet.

I would suggest that you include this project in estate planning since it holds so much importance. We aren’t able to provide legal advice but an estate attorney would be able to provide you with resources on future proofing the legacy of the project.

Our deceased user policy would allow your site to be transferred to a different account after you are deceased. That new owner would be able to continue managing the password protected or private content. See here: https://wordpress.com/support/deceased-user/
