Can I pay for just a domain name, and not a Premium account?

I have the Premium WordPress plan, through which I registered a domain and created a website. I have now made a new website at Squarespace and have mapped the domain to point to that site.

Do I have to keep paying the $99/year rate for the Premium plan to have WordPress basically just host the domain, or am I able to just pay for the domain at $18/year?

    Hi there,

You can indeed just keep the domain name and dispense with the WordPress.com Premium package. If you’d like, I can cancel the Premium package for you right now (unfortunately it’s not eligible for a refund, but at least you wouldn’t have to worry about it renewing or anything).

Also, I just wanted to make sure you knew that since you have Privacy on your domain, the cost per year is actually $26 instead of $18. You can get rid of the privacy if you’d like, but I didn’t want there to be an unpleasant surprise when the time came!

    Thanks for this info.

I would indeed like to cancel the Premium package. I would like to continue with Privacy on the domain for $26/year.

Let me know if you need any other info from me!

That’s not a problem at all! The WordPress.com Premium bundle has been removed from your account.

Now since the bundle and domain have been split, I don’t have any way to enable automatic renewal or anything, so you will get an email some time in July letting you know your domain is coming up for renewal. Just in case it doesn’t come through or gets caught in your spam folder or something, you may want to set a calendar reminder to log in and renew your domain manually around then. I would hate for you to lose your domain after all of this!
