Can I post and sell photographs that I've taken myself on my blog?

I was thinking of starting a second blog for the purpose of marketing my photos that I have taken. I only thought of doing this because everyone I show my photos to ask if I’m going to sell any them and so I’m looking into the possibilities.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com is not really set up for e-commerce, but you can certainly showcase your photography on a WordPress.com site and then provide a link to a site that can handle the transaction end of the business.

Okay thanks for you reply. I will have to work the payment part out some how.

You can apparently use the Paypal Buy It Now button following the instructions in the Support documents.

Yes, the Paypal Buy Now button works here.

But you cannot set up a shopping cart, nor can you do any of the bells ‘n’ whistles you can do with the “real” Paypal Button / account.

But if your sales are small, and you have only a few customers, only a few products, it does work just fine.

And yes, it must follow the instructions precisely.

I’m currently setting up my photo blog. I’ve put some insect photos on a page which will have nothing but that type of photos on it and I’ve posted the images as new posts as well so they show up on the Home page as new posts. I’m using the Selecta Theme.

Now this PayPal button, is it a button available from WordPress or is it something you get from PayPal when you set up an account?

I was thinking that most banks allow e-Transfers (well the banks in Canada anyways) via e-mail and that would be a convenient and acceptable method of payment on my end. Its not like buying one of my photos will put anyone into bankruptcy. LOL I used this method before to send money to a relative out of town and it worked great.

You cannot use e-transfer buttons here; the code will be stripped out.

Here are the instructions for Paypal. Note that you need a merchant account, not just a personal account http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/ Set up the account first. Then follow the instructions. Here are the Buy It Now button instructions https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/paypal-buy-now-button?replies=14#post-233713

Thanks for all your help on the payment issue. If there is any interest in purchasing any of my photos then I will have to look into getting a PayPal account. Until then my blog will just be a place for me to show them off.

If you decide to get into something more serious, you might want to look for discussions on DPReview or Steve’s Camera or any of the major photography sites for more suggestions. Best wishes.

And be sure to upload watermarked, low resolution versions of the pics, so that you have something held back to sell.

Thanks Jennifer, I have looked at some of the photo sites but I wasn’t willing to let some of my better photos go at THAT low of a price. If there is enough interest in my photos then I will probably be upgrading my blog to premium and also may be getting a PayPal account. We’ll see what happens.

Thanks Raincoaster, I have already uploaded about a dozen photos but I worked out the watermark and image size before I even made the blog.
