    can i post anonymously

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you don’t want your posts out for the world to see, I think the best solution is to simply not post them. However, there is an option. In your Dashboard, click Settings> Reading and scroll to Site Visibility. Choose the option “I would like my site to be private, visible only to users I choose.”

    Did I help?

I should have been more specific.

I have one blog, which is work related. I’m a writer. And I’m just getting it started. I have a teen daughter and she reads my work blog occasionally. So does my mother.

I want to create this one to talk about life as the mom of a teen with bipolar. I want to share the thoughts because I feel it helps for others to know they aren’t alone in struggles. The problem is I want to be able to share as my thoughts happen and sometimes they aren’t always positive. Rough days and all. I don’t want my daughter to read it and have it trigger negative emotions in her to see my inner thoughts….does that make sense. So I don’t want her to find the posts on the one blog and see my name on them.

She doesnt surf through stuff too much, so having them connected isn’t really an issue. But if she were to see my name on the posts by chance it could hurt her feelings terribly.

So I was wondering if I can post under a different name and/or anonymously so that my typical username isn’t showing.

I’m not really sure there, but I have an idea you might want to try. This might be more complicated than it needs to be, but I’m a little new at this too. I’ve only had my blog for about a month.

Get yourself a new account, get onto your blog with the original account, go to your Dashboard, and click Users> Invite New. Invite your other account as a “contributor.”

I’m not sure if that’ll work, so let me know.

To be quite honest, you’ve already compromised your anonymity by making this post with that particular username. But oh well.

By far your best bet is to create a completely separate account and Invite that one to be admin of the blog you wish to post anonymously on. Then your “civilian” identity can leave that blog.

Theoretically, you can just change the display name every time you post on the “anonymous” blog, but I have never seen a case where someone didn’t forget to change the username. Never in all my years online. And I remember when Mosaic came out.

Well, there you go. Sounds like we’re close to a solution. And you know, habits can change. If you really want this for your daughter’s sake, I have no doubt you can train yourself to change that display name. Though that particular option sounds like a bit of a hassle to me, since I don’t have a reason for it.

I have no doubt you can train yourself to change that display name.

I am of the opposite opinion. I have been volunteering in this forum for eight years, and have been paid as a consultant on internet drama, stalkers, and security. And I assure you, you WILL screw it up. It’s not worth the hassle and the inevitable failure. Make the separate account.

How do you even change the username every time you post? lol

I’m not worried about here. She’s not going to actively search me down. But I just don’t want to chance having my name on the blog each and every time I post.

the separate id is a good idea.

    Thanks.

I have also answered support questions here before 8 years and I second what raincoaster observed and what she said.

Every blog has a sole owner and it is the person with the username account who registered the blog under that username account and associated email address. No matter how many blogs are created under any username account there will be only one gravatar and one primary blog that can be linked to that username.

By far your best bet is to create a completely separate account and Invite that one to be admin of the blog you wish to post anonymously on. Then your “civilian” identity can leave that blog.
