Can I Pre-date a post? Also a Scribefire Question
-
I just arrived from Xanga, and I want to import my Xanga and several previous Xanga posts to my new WordPress blog. I have read that it’s possible in Windows and Mac, but I’m a Linux user. I figure I can just copy-and-paste entries from my Xanga, but I’d like the DATES to remain the same. I see that I can edit the date of a post, but can I make it pre-date the creation of my new blog?
And a separate question: I have successfully posted to my new blog using the Firefox add-on called Scribefire, but much of the formatting disappears (colored fonts mostly); and the web editor doesn’t appear to support colored fonts either. It’s not a make-or-break thing, but I’d like to know if there’s a way to fully format by posts (maybe copy-and-paste from Open Office Writer perhaps?).
Thanks,

Yes, you can predate posts.
It depends on how scribefire is specifying the colors. WordPress does support font colors and such. In the wordrpress editor the font color selector is on the lower tool bar in the visual editor. If you only see one toolbar, click on the icon on the far right end of the top toolbar (kitchen sink) and the second toolbar will show up.
Never ever copy and paste from Open office, or MS Word or anything like that. They make very bad, incredibly messy code, and at some point it will blow up your blog.
Do a search for offline blog editors for Linux and see what you find. I think there is at least one or two out there although I have no experience with them.

I’ve been searching the forums, trying to figure out how to import my Xanga. I thought I’d found a link to a blog post describing the process, but the link was no longer valid. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

This is the only thing I know about: http://smidg.in/2008/06/18/how-to-import-xanga-into-wordpresscom/ and it is from June of 2008, so I’m not sure if it is still valid or not.
Also look here http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content#Xanga , there are a couple solutions that might allow you to create a file that wordpress can import.
