Can I proceed with my WordPress address and just re-direct my Posterous info?

I pointed and I thought re-directed my Posterous site to WordPress yesterday, but do not see any difference. Also my domain is mine and under E-nom. Do I still re-direct my WordPress adress to my old site address, which ends in .net? I have not gotten any answer from Enom because I cannot get my login info from them. So…I have a wordpress site and my old site was Posterous with a custom domain, what should be my next step? Wait for E-nom or continue to use my WordPress address and redirect my Posterous site?

  • Hi there – I see your WordPress.com site here:

    http://johnnyangel10.wordpress.com/

In terms of your custom domain, you have two options if you want to map it to your WordPress.com site.

You can purchase a domain mapping upgrade for existing domains and then either:

    1) Log into your current domain control panel and set the domain name servers to WordPress.com:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

    2) Alternatively, you can transfer your domain name to another registrar – WordPress.com doesn’t currently accept incoming transfers, so you’d need to find a third-party provider – and then update the name servers to point to WordPress.com, as above.

If you need further help, just let me know.

So I don’t have to transfer my domain after all? I paid $13. to WordPress for what? I got the idea I was going to move the entire domain name. This is false? So,if I keep the paid domain .net that is my old web address, how exactly do I have this set up at WordPress? Just point the address from my current Enom to WordPress? I understood that this is why I had to cancel Enom and you are telling me no? Was there any reason to purchase WordPress domain name(.net)?

  • To map a custom domain to WordPress.com, you do need to purchase a $13 domain mapping upgrade, which you’ve already done for johnnyangeladvocacygroup.net.

To finish the mapping process for johnnyangeladvocacygroup.net, you need to point the domain name servers to WordPress.com, instead of Posterous.

You can update the name servers in your domain registrar’s control panel. If you’re staying with Enom, you can log in and do it there.

Why did I purchase $13 WordPress domain info?? Whatever I purchased,I forget.

  • The domain mapping upgrade ($13) allows you to map your own domain (johnnyangeladvocacygroup.net) to a WordPress.com site. It is different from a domain registration, which costs $18 for a .com domain.

You can learn more about domain mapping here.
