Can I publish a post without my followers seeing?
-
Say I’ve amassed a number of followers through writing about film and I decide I want to start writing about something completely different, which many of my followers just aren’t going to be interested in. Is there any way I can publish a post so that it won’t come up in their Reader, or send them an email once it’s online?
I want people to be able to search and find it on Google, so I need it to be public – I just don’t want to annoy followers with irrelevant updates. Is this doable? Perhaps, if I set it to private for a day or two and then make it public after that – or will making it public cause it to appear newly on their Readers?
Thanks

If you want to write about something your current followers won’t be interested in, then your best alternative is to set up another free blog. You can link to it on your original blog in case some of your followers would like to read the second blog as well.
If you set a post as private, it will be sent out when you make it public.

There’s no way I can publish it without it appearing on the Reader then? What if I change the file type? I really don’t want to start a new blog, just for one piece of writing.

It would presumably have a unique tag or category which wouldn’t be among the tags your Reader readers would see. But it would go out to your email subscribers and on your RSS feed. If it’s only the one post I don’t see that it would upset your readers.
