Can I put a Donation page asking for donors to contact me about my PayPal info?

  Hello.

  I’ve been thinking of adding a Donate page on my blog, and after searching the Support pages, I’ve gathered that this is allowed, even if my blog is still on the Free Plan.

  “With ALL WordPress.com sites you can sell your handmade products, art, books, or digital products such as ebooks or courses on your site using your PayPal account. You can also solicit donations or tips from your readers using the PayPal button or link.” (From “Monetize Your Site”)

  However, as I tried to create my PayPal button, I noticed that the Donate button is used only for fundraising for a cause, esp. by nonprofit organizations. I am just a private individual.

  And so I thought of creating a Donate page with this content:

  Please consider supporting my work here on this blog.

  If you want to donate using PayPal, please contact me using the form below, so that I can send you my email address and/or PayPal.Me link.

  Please note that I am an individual, not an organization, and that any amount you give me will become part of my taxable income. Thank you very much!

  [CONTACT FORM]

  Is this kind of action allowed here in WordPress? Thank you very much!

  WordPress.com supports the use of the PayPal donate button in accordance with PayPal’s policies. If you have any specific questions about the usage of the button please contact PayPal directly at: https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/contact-us

  You may also wish to explore https://www.paypal.me/ and see if that will work for you instead of through Paypal.com.

  I already understand that I cannot use a PayPal donate button, because I’m not raising funds for a cause and because I’m only an individual.

  I already plan to use PayPal.Me, but I don’t want to put my link to my website; I only want to give it to people who really want to donate. And so I’m thinking of putting up a Donate page, and then asking people to contact me for my PayPal.Me link.

  I’m just asking for reassurance that if I do this I won’t get into any trouble. Thanks.

  Hi. I’ve read what I can on PayPal.me, and it looks okay… and since I’m not receiving any red flags here in WordPress.com about what I’m planning to do… I am proceeding with it.

  Hi @arjarana,

  Just reiterating what @thesacredpath mentioned here, in that we support the PayPal options in accordance with PayPal’s policies. So as long as its use complies with their policy, this should be fine.

  Hi. Thanks for the reply.

  I also want to repeat what I said above, for clarity’s sake. I’m no longer planning to use a PayPal donate button, for the simple reason that I can’t use it. I’m not raising money for a cause, and I’m not an organization but a private individual.

  What I have now is a donation page that asks those who want to donate to contact me via the contact form so that I can give them my PayPal.Me link. I consulted PayPal.Me’s support docs and I gathered that there is no problem with this. I can even post the link directly to my blog, but I chose not to.
