Can I really build a proper website??

    Hi,

    Sorry, I’m new so please don’t deride if I am asking obvious questions, the answers of which can be found elsewhere.

    So, I want to build a website with the following features and I’m wondering if wordpress really can do it? My website will essentially be a directory for a certain sector.

    I will have two types of users – the general public and businesses

    The general public will need to enter their details to sign up for an account to gain access to the businesses and information we would hold

    Businesses will need to sign up to an account to be able to fill in a form that allows for their business to have a profile on the site

    These business will need to be searchable by proximity to postcodes and by type of business

    We also need an events/places of interest section that is again searchable by proximity to postcode etc as well as date – so a calendar feature is needed

    So all the above is needed along with the usual pages and content of a website

    Is all this possible??

    Yes, it is all possible. It is NOT possible at WordPress.com though. You will need to buy hosting and use the WordPress.ORG software to do this.
