Can I reclaim a cancelled domain name?

  • Unknown's avatar

We jumped into this last night and later realized we would be better off using WordPress.org. Today I cancelled the premium upgrade as well as the domain name. I read the warning about how I may not be able to get the domain back but I had assumed that meant because someone else could take it once it is released. I wasn’t concerned about it being taken so I went ahead and cancelled everything planning to start fresh and avoid the hassle of transferring.

Now, a few hours later, the name is still not available and I have learned that it may be 90 days or more before it becomes available, if ever. My original decisions were made in haste and now I am wondering if there is any way to stop the cancellation process and reclaim the domain name and then do the proper transfer process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi there,

When a newly-registered domain is cancelled, it can take up to several weeks for our domain registrar to release the domain, and we can’t guarantee that a domain will be available to you again once canceled. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear from the warnings when you cancelled your domain.

I have contacted our domain registrar to see if we can recover your domain for you. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back. Please let me know if you have any questions in the meantime!

    rachelmcr,

Thank you very much for the response. I would gladly “re-purchase” the domain through wordless.com if possible and then perform the proper transfer process.

Thanks again and I hope to hear from you soon!

Hi there, I just sent you an email about your domain. You can reply with any questions to that email, or let me know here if you don’t get the email from me. Thanks!
