Can I register a .com domain for a .wordpress domain I cancelled?
-
I cancelled my registration of a domain name – example.wordpress.com, but I’d like to register the domain example.com. The .com domain is available, but I can’t register it. I think this is because I previously registered the wordpress.com site. Is it possible for me to fix this?

If you had your-site.wordpress.com and deleted it and you want to register your-site.com that is fine as long as your-site.com has not been registered by someone else
Sometimes the old domain name will hang around in your account and the staff sometimes need to clear the domain name – what is the domain name you want to register? have you checked with a whois to make sure it is still open?
I will flag this for the staff to check your account for expired domain names.

It looks like you have scepticatwork.wordpress.com with the associated domains scepticatwork.com and scepticatplay.com. Do you intend to keep those domains?
If you want to register a different domain through WordPress.com, it *must* have an associated WordPress.com address (in your example, you must have example.wordpress.com) or you would not be able to administer the domain.
If you want to register a domain to use elsewhere, I would recommend going with a different domain registrar.
