Can I register my domain name on WordPress as a .org?

  I just put my nonprofit organization’s website on WordPress and need to register the domain name with as a .org. I can’t find any way to do this. Can you please let me know how I can make it .org instead of .com? Thank you.

  You need a Custom Domain and domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

  just a note, the domain you have here – s societyofarchaeologicalresearch – is long and mortals like myself could never get the spelling right – I looked and soar.org is registered but seems to be not really active ( has a redirect on it to a site that looks like a place holder ) – you might see if they would be willing to sell the domain name to you – if you buy it make sure you use an escrow agent to make sure you get the name

  Thanks raincoaster, we were able to get the .org designation and shorten our URL to what we wanted. Appreciate your help!
