Can I remove an inactive follower from my list of followers?
-
I was browsing my list of followers and found an inactive blog. I clicked on the link to the blog and received this message: “the [blog] is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site.”
My list of followers says: Note that this page will only show active followers.
How does a deleted blog qualify as an active follower? Is there any way to clean up my list?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is the URL? Staff can remove it.
We have zero control of our subscribers. They control their own subscriptions and the frequency of receipt. If they don’t unsubscribe then we bloggers can’t do that for them.

Here is the URL in question:
http://themusiccove.wordpress.com/I understand that WordPress does not control subscribers, but if the subscription has lapsed or is cancelled, there should be some way to remove it from the followers. Otherwise, I could have 1000s of followers without a single one being a valid blog (hypothetically).

I agree with you but there is no such ability at this time. What is the URL you want Staff to remove please?

Hey there Matthew!
I’ve checked out the blog you mentioned and it does look deleted. However, the owner of the deleted blog does have another blog that’s active. Nevertheless, please bear in mind that users don’t have to own a blog to actively follow blogs here on WordPress.com. It’s also our policy not to remove a subscriber from a blog. We usually leave that up to our users to unsubscribe on their own. Hope that clears things up. Thanks!

Thanks for the information.
However, when someone who follows blogs on wordpress does not actively own a blog, it creates a situation that is ripe for abuse. I put lots of information about myself on my blog and they, in return, provide nothing–no email, no gravitar profile. They just lurk in a dark corner and watch. In the real world, that would be stalking or spying. I don’t want to go overboard on this, but I would be surprised if this doesn’t become a real problem in the future.

Hello again!
Following is just one way for users to keep track their favorite blogs in the Reader.

Rest assured that it’s not at all a form of spying or stalking — many other people who aren’t following your blog can still see it by entering your blog address in their browsers or find it through a search engine. If you are concerned about your blog being public, you may set it to private and invite only certain users to view it.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns regarding this. Thanks!

Many people that follow blogs don’t have their own web site or blog, also many people don’t want to have a link back to their facebook thing either with their following info, also many people have private FacePlant sites, so a link back would be useless
