Can I remove the "date" and "Uncategorized" from my home page? How?

I am trying to remove the date at the top when I first started and trying to remove the greyed out word “Uncategorized”. How can I do this. I am super new, so if you tell me to open the .php thing which I saw in a few google search results, I have no idea where to find that. Please lead me to where I can do this step by step. Thank you.
